Inside the Swamp Ghost Recovery
Ken Fields grew up idolizing his dad, who was checking out his new B-17E on December 6, 1941, a day before the Japanese attacked Hawaii. Through 435th BS and 19th BG reunions, Ken befriended the crew of an ill-fated B-17E that had been sitting in a Papua New Guinea swamp since early 1942. Ken conspired with Glen Spieth and Fred Hagen to recover and sa ve the aptly named Swamp Ghost from decay and inevitable destruction.
