During its seven-year career in the Navy, the
Douglas AD-5W Skyraider at the Cavanaugh
Flight Museum (CFM) was assigned to VAW-
12 Bats and went to sea nine times aboard
seven different aircraft carriers. In 2014, after
seven years with CFM, museum pilot Chuck
Gardner discovered a photo of the Skyraider
in VAW-12 colors and the decision was made
to repaint the “Guppy” in this historically correct
scheme.
